South Korea Aims for Global Leadership in AI, Advanced Biology, and Quantum Technologies

SEOUL — South Korea is set to launch a major initiative to become a global leader in artificial intelligence (AI) chips, advanced biology, and quantum technologies by 2030.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the Presidential Advisory Council on Science and Technology has adopted the "game-changer technology initiative" following President Yoon Suk Yeol's commitment to position the country among the top three nations in science and technology sectors.

The government plans to significantly increase investment in these strategic areas, aiming to advance market value chains and enhance cooperation with international allies. Specific goals include developing next-generation AI technologies, digital biotechnologies, and quantum science applications to strengthen South Korea's role in the future global economy and national defense.
