Fatal Bungee Jumping Accident at Anseong Mall Claims Life of Woman in Her 60s

ANSEONG—A tragic accident occurred at Starfield Anseong Mall, just south of Seoul, where a woman in her 60s died after falling from a bungee jumping platform on Monday, according to local police reports. The victim, whose name has not been disclosed, fell eight meters to the concrete floor of a sports experience facility located within the mall. This facility is known for offering a range of activities, including bungee jumping and climbing.

According to Yonhap News Agency, despite the victim being equipped with safety gear, a critical failure involving an unsecured carabiner, a safety hook integral to bungee jumping equipment, led to the fatal plunge. The incident, which resulted in the woman entering cardiac arrest, prompted immediate medical response. She was transported to a nearby hospital at approximately 4:27 p.m. but was declared dead approximately an hour later.

Authorities have initiated a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident, with a specific focus on the adherence to safety protocols at the facility. The investigation aims to determine the cause of the accident and assess the implementation of necessary safety measures at the time of the incident.
