Gyeongju: South Korea and Japan are in the process of arranging bilateral summit talks between South Korean President Lee Jae Myung and Japan’s new Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi later this week, as reported by a Japanese media outlet on Tuesday. The meeting is being scheduled for Thursday, ahead of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit set to commence in Gyeongju.
According to Yonhap News Agency, both Seoul and Tokyo are working to ensure the summit takes place, with both leaders eager to sustain the momentum in improving bilateral relations. Prime Minister Takaichi is anticipated to arrive in South Korea on Thursday to participate in the APEC summit, which will begin in the southeastern city the following day.
The presidential office has indicated that arrangements are being made for President Lee’s inaugural summit with Prime Minister Takaichi during the APEC summit. Additionally, President Lee is scheduled to meet with U.S. President Donald Trump on Wednesday and with Chinese President Xi Jinping on Saturday.
