South Korea and NATO Commit to Expanded Defense Cooperation

SEOUL - The defense ministry announced on Thursday that South Korea's Defense Minister Shin Won-sik and General Christopher Cavoli, NATO's Supreme Allied Commander Europe, have agreed to deepen military cooperation. During discussions in Seoul, the parties evaluated ongoing collaborations in military exercises, cybersecurity, and defense against chemical, biological, and radioactive threats.

According to Yonhap News Agency, They committed to enhancing these ties under the Individually Tailored Partnership Program, established in July 2023 to cover 11 cooperation areas. Cavoli's visit, his first to South Korea, highlights the nation's growing significance in global security, especially amid concerns over military cooperation between North Korea and Russia. The talks also addressed the importance of international coordination to counter North Korean provocations and agreed on measures to strengthen intelligence exchanges.
