Seoul: South Korea has resumed its propaganda loudspeaker broadcasts directed at North Korea for the first time since early 2016, in response to the North’s continued actions of sending balloons carrying trash across the border. The move underscores the ongoing tensions between the two nations, as the South seeks to counter the North’s provocations through psychological warfare tactics.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the decision to restart the broadcasts comes after a series of escalatory measures taken by North Korea, including the repeated dispatch of balloons filled with trash into South Korean territory. The loudspeaker broadcasts, which are strategically placed along the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ), aim to deliver messages that challenge the North Korean regime and provide information to its citizens.
