South Korea Supports UN Resolution for Gaza Ceasefire

SEOUL — The South Korean government expressed approval of the recent United Nations Security Council resolution demanding an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the resolution, which South Korea was a part of proposing, calls for a halt to the fighting between Israel and the Hamas militant group, along with provisions for the release of hostages and ensuring humanitarian access to the region. The resolution garnered the support of 14 out of 15 council members, with the United States abstaining. Ministry spokesperson Lim Soo-suk conveyed the country’s hopes that the resolution leads to meaningful progress towards peace and aid in Gaza. Despite questions on the resolution's binding nature, the ministry underscored the importance of its implementation, reflecting a collective international consensus.
