South Korea-U.S. Shipbuilding Cooperation Discussed

Seoul:Defense Minister Kang Shin-chul met with U.S. Senator Dave McCormick in Seoul to discuss shipbuilding cooperation between South Korea and the United States.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Kang emphasized the importance of the South Korea-U.S. alliance as a key factor for peace and security in the region. He urged the U.S. Congress to remain a reliable supporter of this alliance.

Kang expressed gratitude to Senator McCormick for his ongoing interest and support in shipbuilding cooperation and expressed optimism about further practical developments between Seoul and Washington in this area.

The discussions also highlighted the shared view that the bilateral alliance should expand beyond security cooperation to become a strategic partnership focusing on technological innovation and the defense industry.

This meeting followed McCormick's visit to Hanwha Ocean Co.'s shipyard in Geoje, where he examined the defense contractor's shipbuilding infrastructure and manufacturing capabilities.
