As the Paris Olympics enters its final week, South Korean athletes are set to start their competitions in sport climbing and wrestling, with high hopes for medals.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Sport climber Lee Do-hyun will participate in the boulder semifinal of the men's boulder and lead combined event on Monday at Le Bourget, north of Paris. Lee, a silver medalist at the 2023 Asian Games, is considered a strong contender for a medal. The climbing competition will continue with the lead semifinal on Wednesday and the combined final on Friday. The objective in bouldering is for climbers to scale multiple routes within a set time limit, while lead climbing challenges athletes to ascend as high as possible on a 15-meter wall within six minutes.
In wrestling, Lee Seung-chan will compete in the men's Greco-Roman 130-kilogram category, starting with the round of 16 on Monday at Champ-de-Mars Arena. Lee earned his place in the Olympics by defeating two-time Asian Games bronze medalist and 2018 world bronze medalist Kim Min-seok in the national team trials. The wrestling events will continue with the quarterfinals and semifinals on the same day, followed by the repechage matches and the finals on Tuesday.
Additionally, the South Korean women's table tennis team will face Brazil in the round of 16 on Monday. The team event consists of one doubles and up to four singles matches, ending when one team secures three match wins. Shin Yu-bin, who recently won a mixed doubles bronze, will aim for her second medal in Paris following a loss in the women's singles bronze medal match.
