South Korean Political Parties Intensify Campaigns in Strategic Regions Before Elections

SEOUL - In the final stages of campaigning before the parliamentary elections, South Korea's political parties intensified their efforts in key strategic regions, aiming to sway undecided voters and consolidate their support base. With the elections just two days away, leaders from the ruling and opposition parties toured battleground districts, particularly focusing on the Seoul metropolitan area and adjacent regions.

According to Yonhap News Agency, The People Power Party (PPP) leader Han Dong-hoon focused on Gyeonggi Province and Incheon, areas critical for securing a majority. Gyeonggi, which encircles Seoul, and Incheon, located to the west of the capital, together account for 74 parliamentary seats, forming a vital electoral battleground. Despite these regions traditionally leaning towards the Democratic Party (DP), certain areas with younger and industrial demographics are viewed as competitive zones in this election cycle.

Han's itinerary included canvassing in southeastern Gyeonggi and parts of Incheon, with a strategic stop in Goyang and proposals for administrative reorganization aimed at integrating Gimpo and neighboring cities with Seoul. Meanwhile, DP leader Lee Jae-myung concentrated his efforts in Seoul, targeting central and western districts before supporting a DP candidate in Incheon, where he is also contesting a seat.

The DP undertook a strategic pivot by focusing on traditionally conservative districts in southern Seoul, aiming to capitalize on the tight race and voter dissatisfaction with the current administration. Both parties are leveraging these final moments to make a decisive impact, understanding that voter turnout and swing districts will play crucial roles in determining the election outcome.
