SEOUL - In response to severe weather conditions affecting parts of South Korea, Prime Minister Han Duck-soo has called for comprehensive measures to safeguard regions prone to heavy downpours. This directive comes as meteorologists forecast significant rainfall across central regions, with up to 70 mm per hour expected starting late Tuesday.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Han has directed government ministries and local authorities to intensify monitoring of vulnerable areas, particularly mountainous regions with sparse populations. The goal is to ensure timely evacuations at the first sign of potential danger to minimize damage and protect lives.
"Immediate and proactive measures are essential to managing the impact of these heavy rains," Han emphasized. He also instructed officials to manage water levels in dams meticulously and maintain open communication channels for real-time updates, ensuring the safety of downstream areas. The recent weather has already seen rainfall rates exceeding 100 mm per hour in South Jeolla Province, putting emergency services on high alert.
