Daegu:A special counsel team has requested a 20-year prison term for Daegu Mayor Choo Kyung-ho, who faces charges for his involvement in supporting former President Yoon Suk Yeol in maintaining martial law in 2024. At the time, Choo was the floor leader of the then ruling People Power Party.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Choo is accused of changing the location of an emergency party meeting three times on December 3, 2024, following Yoon's declaration of martial law. This move allegedly aimed to prevent lawmakers from participating in a parliamentary vote to end the emergency decree.
The special counsel, led by Cho Eun-suk, indicted Choo for his significant role in an insurrection. During the trial at the Seoul Central District Court, a team member stated that Choo neglected his constitutional duties as a lawmaker, actively participating in the insurrection instead of monitoring and checking martial law.
