Special Counsel Recommends 7 1/2-Year Sentence for Kim Keon Hee in Bribery Trial

Seoul: A special counsel team on Friday sought a 7 1/2-year prison term for former first lady Kim Keon Hee during her trial on charges of taking luxury gifts in return for promises of government appointments and other favors. The case centers on allegations that Kim, the wife of former President Yoon Suk Yeol, engaged in corrupt activities during her husband's tenure.

According to Yonhap News Agency, special counsel Min Joong-ki's team made the sentencing recommendation for Kim at the trial's final hearing at the Seoul Central District Court. The court proceedings have attracted significant attention, with the prosecution arguing that Kim's actions undermined the integrity of the public office and violated the public trust.

The trial has been ongoing as prosecutors and defense attorneys presented evidence and testimony. The special counsel's recommendation for a 7 1/2-year sentence reflects the severity of the charges and the impact of the alleged crimes on the country's governance. The court is expected to make its final decision on sentencing in the coming weeks.
