Suspect in Incheon Knife Attack Faces Arrest Warrant Hearing

Incheon:A 59-year-old man accused of injuring eight people in a knife attack at a commercial complex in Incheon attended an arrest warrant hearing on Friday. The incident occurred earlier this week at a shopping complex just west of Seoul.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the hearing took place at 2 p.m. at the Incheon District Court following prosecutors' request for an arrest warrant. The charges include attempted murder and carrying weapons in public spaces.

The suspect allegedly attempted to kill 10 people using knives attached to both of his hands. While eight individuals were injured in the attack, one victim remains unconscious after cardiac arrest, and two people escaped without harm. The suspect has 10 prior convictions, including two for attempted murder.

As he approached the court, the suspect expressed remorse, stating, "I am sorry," and acknowledged making a serious mistake. The police reported that the man's motive stemmed from frustration over his medical treatment at a local hospital. He had conducted a solo protest outside the hospital for two and a half months since August, during which the hospital reported him to the police for possessing a weapon.

The court's decision on the arrest warrant was anticipated later on Friday.
