TvN’s ‘Maestra: Strings of Truth’ Blends Suspense and Music in New Drama

Seoul – TvN's upcoming TV series "Maestra: Strings of Truth" promises to captivate audiences with a suspenseful narrative centered around a female conductor, a role rarely spotlighted in Korean television. The series features acclaimed actress Lee Young-ae, who takes on the character of Cha Se-eum, a violinist-turned-world-renowned conductor.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Lee Young-ae expressed her attraction to the unique role of a maestra, noting the novelty and intrigue of the character in the landscape of Korean TV series. She shared her thoughts at a promotional event for the series on Wednesday, highlighting the compelling storyline and her eagerness to portray this groundbreaking character.

The plot of "Maestra: Strings of Truth," based on the French TV series "Philharmonia," revolves around Cha Se-eum. After spending 20 years abroad, Se-eum returns to South Korea to lead The Hankang Philharmonic. She finds herself entangled in complex personal relationships, including dealing with a former boyfriend and her dependent husband, while also uncovering the truth behind a tragedy within the ensemble and confronting her own past.

To prepare for the role, Lee Young-ae began learning violin and conducting from professional musicians in November last year. Despite the challenging preparation, she praised the excellent teamwork and production quality of the series.

Director Kim Jung-kwon focused on casting actors capable of playing classical music instruments for the ensemble roles, adding authenticity to the musical elements of the series. He encouraged viewers to observe Lee's passionate performance as a conductor.

"Maestra: Strings of Truth," which stands out in a genre with few representations of classical music conductors, especially female conductors, is set to premiere Saturday on tvN. The 12-part series will also be available on Tving and Disney+ in select regions.
