Unification Ministry Emphasizes Dialogue Amidst DMZ Tensions

Seoul:The unification ministry has reaffirmed its dedication to peaceful resolutions concerning inter-Korean relations, emphasizing dialogue following recent land mine explosions in the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) that injured three South Korean military officers.

According to Yonhap News Agency, this commitment was highlighted a day after South Korea's defense ministry attributed the September 21 land mine explosions to North Korea. The unification ministry has expressed its intention to consult with relevant government agencies, including the defense ministry, to determine subsequent actions.

The ministry stated its goal to break the ongoing cycle of hostility and foster peace and prosperity through communication rather than confrontation. The South Korean military confirmed that the explosions were caused by resin antipersonnel mines deliberately planted by North Korea south of the Military Demarcation Line, following a joint investigation with the U.N. Command. In response, a mine-clearing operation was conducted at the site.
