CHATEAUROUX, FRANCE — Yang Ji-in secured the gold medal in the women's 25-meter pistol shooting event at the Paris Olympics, marking a significant victory for South Korea. Yang triumphed over Camille Jedrzejewski of France in a tense shoot-off after both competitors ended the final tied, enhancing South Korea’s already successful run at the games.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the final round was intensely competitive, with Yang and Jedrzejewski finishing the 10 series of shots tied at 37-37 at the Chateauroux Shooting Centre. The match proceeded to a shoot-off, where Yang outperformed Jedrzejewski, clinching victory with critical hits in the decisive moments. This gold is South Korea’s third in shooting at this Olympics and the eighth overall.
Yang, aged 21, joins the ranks of prominent South Korean shooters such as the 2012 gold medalist Kim Jang-mi and the 2021 silver medalist Kim Min-jung. Reflecting on her victory, Yang expressed her pride in lifting the South Korean flag, the Taegeukgi, and her ambitions to maintain her top position globally. “Now that I've shown that I am the No. 1 shooter in the world, I will try hard to maintain this position and not come down,” Yang stated. She also acknowledged the pressure of the shoot-off, sharing her determination to see her efforts culminate in success.
This Olympic cycle has been exceptionally fruitful for South Korea's shooting team, which has significantly improved upon its performance from Tokyo. With three golds and two silvers already secured and more events to go, the team has matched its record medal haul from the 2012 London Olympics.
