3rd Korean Food Video Contest for foreign competitors launched

A video contest has started for those worldwide who wish to express their love for Korean food.

The third annual Korean Food Video Contest began on Aug. 22 and runs through Sept. 30, the event’s cohosts Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Industries and Korean Food Promotion Institute said on Aug. 21.

The contest has two categories: “cookbang” for cooking videos using kimchi and fermented condiments and meokbang (mukbang) for videos featuring the eating and enjoyment of Korean food.

Seventy-six winning works will be chosen based on the number of views and expert assessments with total prize money of USD 106,000.

Foreign passport holders either living in Korea or elsewhere are eligible to enter. If an entrant’s social media account has over 500 subscribers, he or she must choose Group A and one with under that figure must select Group B.

In Group A, the cookbang winner will receive USD 7,000 and the meokbang winner USD 6,000, while those in Group B will get USD 3,000 and USD 2,500, respectively. To encourage a bigger turnout, the event will also give out 12 excellence, 20 participation and 40 other awards.

To enter, visit the event’s official site (www.playkoreanfood.com). An entrant must upload a video 30 minutes or shorter on the site and register their YouTube or Instagram accounts.

The contest debuted in 2020, when 510 teams competed, and last year’s edition attracted 989 teams from 70 countries presenting 1,318 videos.
