Pyongyang: North Korea has launched an industrial campaign to boost production, presenting a cement factory in the country's southern region praised by leader Kim Jong-un as an exemplary case, according to a North Korean newspaper Wednesday.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the North's ruling Workers' Party newspaper Rodong Sinmun called the Sangwon Cement Complex in North Hwanghae Province "an honorable, cherished example" of putting into practice the spirit of last month's party congress. The factory is reportedly exceeding its daily production targets by 1.2 times, renewing record-high production levels achieved last year.
The cement factory gained attention when Kim Jong-un visited the site on March 1 for his first public inspection of an industrial facility following the high-profile ruling party congress. During his visit, Kim praised the factory for its significant contributions to the party's successful implementation of large-scale construction projects.
The Sangwon Cement Complex, with an annual production capacity of 2 million tons, has been essential to North Korea's major construction efforts, including the building of 50,000 flats in Pyongyang. The paper emphasized the need for new production standards and achievements across the country, inspired by the factory's success, as part of the economic development plans adopted at the congress.
