Acting President Urges Public to Respect Constitutional Court’s Ruling on Yoon

Seoul: Acting President Choi Sang-mok on Tuesday called on the public to respect the forthcoming ruling of the Constitutional Court regarding President Yoon Suk Yeol’s impeachment, amid rising concerns over potential social unrest.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Choi made this appeal during a Cabinet meeting, emphasizing the importance of accepting the court’s decision. “I sincerely urge the people to respect and accept whatever decision the Constitutional Court makes,” Choi stated.

Choi’s remarks come at a time when the nation is witnessing heightened tensions between supporters and opponents of President Yoon. As the Constitutional Court deliberates on whether to reinstate or permanently remove Yoon following his impeachment over a brief martial law declaration on December 3, public anxiety over possible violence and clashes is escalating.

The Constitutional Court is anticipated to deliver its final decision later this week. In anticipation of the ruling, large-scale rallies and protests occurred in major urban centers nationwide over the weekend, drawing both opponents and supporters of Yoon’s removal. Although these demonstrations concluded without major incidents, there is a prevailing concern that the situation could escalate into violence or physical confrontations after the court’s decision is announced.
