Arrest Warrant Sought for Man Involved in Stabbing Incident Near Defense Ministry Compound

SEOUL – Police in Seoul are in the process of obtaining a court warrant for the arrest of a 77-year-old man, identified only by his family name Park, following an attack on two police officers stationed at the defense ministry compound.

According to Yonhap News Agency, officials on Wednesday, the incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday afternoon when Park assaulted one officer, causing abdominal injuries, and another, resulting in an injury to the left arm. The officers, stationed in front of the compound in Seoul's Yongsan district, did not sustain life-threatening injuries.

The Yongsan Police Station has subsequently filed for an arrest warrant against Park on charges of obstructing official duties and causing injury. This is not the first instance of Park causing disturbance in this location; in September, he was investigated after threatening police officers with a cane and expressing a desire to “kill the president.”
