According to BigHit Music, the agency representing BTS, the digital single reached number one in countries including the United States, Japan, Germany, and France, as of 8 a.m. Saturday, just a day after its release.
According to Yonhap News Agency, The single is a dedication to ARMY, BTS' global fan base, and features a promise from Jimin to remain steadfast despite challenges. The music video accompanying "Closer Than This" offers a nostalgic look into Jimin's 10-year journey in the music industry. The release comes shortly after Jimin enlisted in the Army on December 12 to fulfill his mandatory military service, a requirement for all able-bodied men in South Korea.
