Democratic Party Task Force Considers Impeaching Justice Minister Han Dong-hoon

SEOUL, - The main opposition Democratic Party (DP) in South Korea is contemplating the impeachment of Justice Minister Han Dong-hoon, following his critical remarks about the party's use of parliamentary impeachments. This development was announced on Thursday by a task force of the DP, highlighting a growing political rift.

According to Yonhap News Agency, chief of the DP's task force on crimes by prosecutors, the call for impeachment comes in response to Minister Han's recent comments. Han criticized the DP for its attempt to impeach two prosecutors over alleged irregularities and compared it to a government effort to dissolve the DP. Kim emphasized that Han's remarks, which included a reference to the party's dissolution, were unacceptable and possibly unconstitutional.

Kim noted increasing public demand for Han's impeachment and stated that while the task force primarily focuses on crimes committed by prosecutors, they could consider impeaching Han, a former prosecutor himself, if necessary. However, the DP's leadership seems less enthusiastic about this move. In a radio interview, senior DP member Rep. Park Chan-dae expressed a more ambiguous stance, indicating a preference for indifference rather than direct action against Han.
