INCHEON — On Monday, Lee Jae-myung, the leader of the opposition Democratic Party (DP), accused the government and the ruling People Power Party (PPP) of making impractical electoral promises to gain voter support ahead of the upcoming general elections.
According to Yonhap News Agency, President Yoon Suk Yeol and PPP leader Han Dong-hoon have been issuing campaign pledges and policies with an estimated cost of 1,000 trillion won ($750.8 billion) across the country. During a party meeting in Incheon, Lee questioned the feasibility of these promises and urged the implementation of economic and livelihood policies that genuinely benefit the populace.
Lee also criticized the government's strong stance against the doctors' strike, which protested the decision to increase medical school admissions. The strike, now in its seventh day, has seen more than 9,000 trainee doctors walking out, with resignations surpassing 10,000, as reported by the Ministry of Health and Welfare. Lee's comments reflect concerns over the government's handling of disputes, highlighting the deployment of a prosecutor to the health ministry for legal consultations amid threats of legal action against striking doctors.
