“Exhuma” Drives Record March Sales for Korean Films

SEOUL — The Korean Film Commission reported unprecedented sales for Korean films in March, largely attributed to the success of the supernatural thriller "Exhuma.

According to Yonhap News Agency, consolidated sales reached 80.3 billion won, surpassing the pre-pandemic average and marking a significant increase from the previous year. The film industry's recovery is evidenced by the attendance of 8.29 million viewers in March, demonstrating a return to pre-pandemic levels. "Exhuma," which opened on February 22, played a crucial role in this achievement, generating 70.7 billion won in revenue and contributing to the overall success of local theaters. Directed by Jang Jae-hyun and starring notable actors such as Choi Min-sik and Kim Go-eun, "Exhuma" has maintained its position at the top of the weekend box office for seven consecutive weeks, attracting over 11 million viewers. This record-breaking performance highlights the resilience and potential of the Korean film industry.
