Germany Conducts Inspection of Embassy in North Korea, Discusses Bilateral Ties with South Korea

SEOUL — The Foreign Ministry of South Korea announced that Thomas Bagger, the State Secretary of the Federal Foreign Office of Germany, has shared insights from a recent inspection of the German embassy in North Korea with South Korean officials. During a meeting with South Korea's First Vice Foreign Minister Kim Hong-kyun in Seoul, discussions extended beyond the embassy inspection to encompass bilateral relations and regional security concerns.

According to Yonhap News Agency, The German delegation's visit to Pyongyang last month marked the first inspection of its embassy premises since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic forced its closure in 2020. Bagger communicated the findings of the inspection and assured continued dialogue with Seoul on this matter, although specific details were not disclosed. In their talks, Vice Minister Kim expressed aspirations for strengthened ties between Germany and South Korea, not only in trade and investment but also in collaborative efforts addressing climate change and advancing high-tech industries.
