K-pop Girl Group Billlie Explores Inner World in New Album ‘side-B’

SEOUL - K-pop girl group Billlie is shifting its storytelling focus from a fairytale-like universe to exploring the complexities of one's inner mind in its new album.

According to a new release by Yonhap News Agency, during a media showcase in Seoul on Monday, the group revealed details about their first single album, "side-B: memoirs of echo unseen." This new work is a spinoff from the group's previous album series, which revolved around the story of a girl named "Billlie Love" who mysteriously disappears. The new album is set in an alternate space-time called "Side-B" within the established "Billliverse."

This new album comes seven months after the group's last EP, "The Billage of Perception: Chapter Three," released in March. The lead track, "Dang! (hocus pocus)," is used to express feelings of amazement and awe, explained Tsuki during the media showcase. The song delves into the gap between self-perception and how one is perceived by others.

Siyoon, another member of the group, elaborated that the song "shows that all of those sides constitute you even if you may think they are different." The album also includes a track titled "BYOB (bring your own best friend)," which was released in advance last month and is in the easy listening genre. The album additionally features English-language versions of the two new songs.

When questioned about the challenges of singing English tracks, Haram stated, "It wasn't easy but we tried to make the songs sound not awkward to those who speak English as their native tongue."

Notably, the upcoming album features only five of the group's seven members, as Moon Sua and Suhyeon are currently inactive due to health issues. Siyoon emphasized that the members' health is a top priority and mentioned, "I think it's more important to keep our place until all seven members can reunite to work in good shape." She could not specify when the absent members would return.

The group debuted under the label Mystic Story in November 2021.
