KBO Season Opener Draws Massive Crowds Across South Korea

SEOUL — The Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) kicked off its new season with unprecedented enthusiasm as all five games on the opening day witnessed sellout crowds, summing up to over 100,000 attendees nationwide.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the season started on Saturday with full stands at all hosting venues, marking a significant day for baseball in South Korea.

The match featuring the defending Korean Series champions, the LG Twins, against the Hanwha Eagles, was a particular highlight, drawing 23,750 fans to Jamsil Baseball Stadium in Seoul. Similarly, the clash between the Lotte Giants and the SSG Landers was held before a packed house of 23,000 spectators at Incheon SSG Landers Park.

The excitement extended to Gwangju, where the Kia Tigers faced off against the Kiwoom Heroes at Gwangju-Kia Champions Field with 20,500 fans in attendance. In Changwon, the NC Dinos' game against the Doosan Bears at Changwon NC Park saw all 17,891 tickets sold within 45 minutes of going on sale online, indicating high anticipation among fans.

Additionally, the KT Wiz and the Samsung Lions attracted 18,700 fans to KT Wiz Park in Suwon, showcasing the widespread appeal of the game. With a total of 103,841 fans attending the games on Saturday, the KBO has successfully attracted over 100,000 spectators on Opening Day for the third time, following similar achievements in 2019 and 2023.
