Police Seek Arrest Warrant for YouTuber Over Spy Cameras at Voting Stations

Incheon — The Incheon Nonhyeon Police Station announced Saturday that they have requested an arrest warrant for a YouTuber suspected of installing hidden cameras in about 40 early voting stations across major South Korean cities. The individual, a man in his 40s, reportedly targeted stations in Seoul, Busan, Incheon, Ulsan, and Daegu, ahead of the parliamentary elections scheduled for April 10. The Ministry of the Interior reported the discovery of spy cameras in 26 early voting stations as of Friday.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the suspect aimed to monitor the National Election Commission for potential manipulation of early voting turnout rates. Investigations revealed that the individual might also have installed hidden cameras during the 2022 presidential election and the Gangseo District mayoral by-election in Seoul last October. Authorities are currently examining whether additional hidden cameras have been placed in other polling stations. Early voting for the upcoming elections is set for April 5-6.
