Seoul — President Yoon Suk Yeol is set to attend the global AI Safety Summit through a videoconference later this week, as announced by his office on Wednesday.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the office of the president, the inaugural AI Safety Summit opened at Bletchley Park in central England on Wednesday, providing a platform for international leaders and experts to discuss the potential risks and opportunities presented by artificial intelligence (AI) technologies. In a session scheduled for Thursday (local time), President Yoon is anticipated to emphasize the need for global coordination in establishing rules governing AI. He will also advocate for the creation of a global organization dedicated to addressing AI-related issues.

President Yoon will take the opportunity to share South Korea's "Digital Bill of Rights," a document unveiled by his government in September. The Digital Bill of Rights outlines guidelines to ensure that AI and other digital technologies contribute to the expansion of human freedoms, among other objectives.

In addition, the office disclosed plans for South Korea to host a virtual mini summit in collaboration with the British government in six months’ time. The purpose of this mini summit is to review progress made since the AI Safety Summit and to prepare for the second conference slated to occur one year later.
