Samsung Lions Sign Former Major League Pitcher Denyi Reyes

SEOUL: The Samsung Lions have announced the signing of former major league pitcher Denyi Reyes to their roster. The 27-year-old Dominican right-hander has agreed to a one-year contract worth up to $800,000, which includes salary, a signing bonus, and potential incentives. This acquisition marks the Lions' departure from their previous staff ace, David Buchanan.

According to Yonhap News Agency, who played for the Baltimore Orioles in 2022 and the New York Mets in 2023, brings experience from 12 major league games, despite a challenging record. In Triple-A last year, Reyes recorded a 5.79 ERA in 20 outings. His five-pitch mix, featuring a four-seam fastball averaging 91.8 miles per hour, proved effective in limiting opponents' batting average. Buchanan's absence from the Lions' lineup comes as he seeks a return to the major leagues.
