Seoul Braces for Heavy Snowfall, with Up to 10 cm Expected

SEOUL: Starting Tuesday, a significant snowfall event is anticipated across South Korea, with the capital city of Seoul expected to receive around 10 centimeters of snow, as reported by the state weather agency on Monday. This forecast marks a notable weather development, particularly in the Seoul metropolitan area and its surrounding regions.

According to Yonhap News Agency, The Korea Meteorological Administration predicts that snow will begin falling in Seoul and nearby areas from dawn on Tuesday and continue through the morning. Meanwhile, areas south of the Chungcheong provinces are expected to experience snow or rain starting Tuesday afternoon.

The forecast indicates that the mountainous regions of Gangwon Province may receive over 20 centimeters of snow from Tuesday to Wednesday. Additionally, the inlands of Gyeonggi Province and parts of North Gyeongsang Province are likely to see snowfall reaching up to 15 centimeters.

While temperatures are predicted to rise above average levels starting Saturday, the weather agency has issued warnings about the potential impact of heavy snowfall during the morning and evening rush hours in the capital area. Furthermore, there is a concern about icy roads, which may result from a drop in temperature following the passage of low atmospheric pressure.

This weather event is expected to create challenging conditions for travel and daily activities, prompting residents and authorities in Seoul and affected regions to prepare for the upcoming snowfall.
