Seoul to Host AI Summit with United Kingdom in May

SEOUL — South Korea and the United Kingdom are set to co-host an artificial intelligence (AI) summit in Seoul, scheduled for May 21-22, as a continuation of international efforts to address AI development and safety. This event follows the AI Safety Summit that took place in England last November, which saw participation from nations including the United States, Japan, and Germany.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the AI Seoul Summit aims to discuss the promotion of innovation, inclusivity, and mutual growth through AI development. The leaders of the participating nations will engage in a virtual summit on the evening of May 21 to discuss AI safety and strategies for an inclusive future. A ministerial meeting on May 22 will focus on specific cooperation areas and measures to enhance AI safety and sustainability based on the prior day's discussions. Additionally, the AI Global Forum, proposed by President Yoon Suk Yeol at the U.N. General Assembly last September, will convene on May 22 with senior officials, industry leaders, and academics to discuss new directions for AI global governance.
