CANBERRA — South Korea's Ministry of Defense is set to host a pivotal conference in Canberra this week, aimed at enhancing bilateral defense and arms cooperation between South Korea and Australia. This gathering seeks to secure major arms contracts and strengthen ties amidst evolving global security challenges.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the conference will occur on Thursday and will feature participation from government, industry, and academic leaders from both nations. Major South Korean arms manufacturers such as HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, Hanwha Systems, and Korea Aerospace Industries Ltd. (KAI) will showcase their key products. This event marks the first overseas conference of its kind organized by the South Korean defense ministry, tailored to foster collaboration with aligned nations in a complex security landscape. Vice Defense Minister Kim Seon-ho is scheduled to arrive in Australia on Wednesday for a three-day visit, during which he will attend the conference and engage in discussions with top defense and governmental officials.
