South Korea and Poland to Increase Weekly Flights, Boosting Economic Ties

Seoul – In a move to strengthen economic ties, South Korea and Poland have agreed to increase the number of weekly flights between the two countries, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on Monday.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the agreement will raise the number of weekly flights to seven from the current five on routes from Incheon, located just west of Seoul. Additionally, three weekly flights will be introduced on routes from the southern port city of Busan. This expansion aims to accommodate the growing travel demand due to increased economic activities between the two nations.

Currently, Poland's national carrier, LOT Polish Airlines, operates flights to Incheon, but South Korean airlines, including Korean Air Co. and Asiana Airlines Inc., do not have flights to Poland. The ministry highlighted the potential for increased travel as South Korean companies have significant investments in Poland and are likely to expand exports in defense industry products to the country.

In the previous year, Korean companies secured major deals in Poland, totaling 17 trillion won (US$13 billion), involving K2 tanks, K9 self-propelled howitzers, FA-50 light attack aircraft, and Chunmoo multiple rocket launchers. Additionally, LG Energy Solution operates an EV battery plant in Poland since 2017, and SK Nexilis Co., the world's largest copper foil maker, is constructing a facility in the European nation.
