South Korea Expresses Regret Over Russian Envoy’s Remarks on North Korea

SEOUL — South Korea has voiced strong regret over comments made by Russia's Ambassador to North Korea, Alexander Matsegora, regarding the potential for a seventh North Korean nuclear test. In an interview with TASS, Matsegora suggested that North Korea's decision to conduct another nuclear test would depend on the actions of Seoul and Washington, criticizing the allies for their deterrence measures.

According to Yonhap News Agency, South Korea's foreign ministry spokesperson, Lim Soo-suk, condemned Matsegora's statements for blaming South Korea and the United States for North Korea's provocations and for justifying North Korea's nuclear development. Lim emphasized that enhancing security measures is essential for the protection and safety of South Korean citizens, highlighting the importance of trilateral security cooperation among South Korea, the U.S., and Japan in response to military threats from Russia and North Korea.
