South Korea on Alert for Bomb Threat Targeting Children’s Day Celebrations

SEOUL: South Korean authorities are actively seeking the individual responsible for an email that threatened to detonate bombs at public facilities frequented by children on Children's Day.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the email, which was received by a local news outlet on Saturday, detailed plans to deploy "high-performance bombs" as retaliation for statements made by U.S. President Joe Biden about Japan. The sender used the name Takahiro Karasawa, a Japanese lawyer who has been falsely implicated in similar threats since August, targeting various significant locations in South Korea including the Supreme Court and media organizations. Police are exploring the possibility that the same individual is behind this latest threat and are coordinating efforts to prevent any potential attacks while investigating the misuse of Karasawa’s identity.
