South Korea Vaccinates Over 84% of Cattle Against Lumpy Skin Disease Amid Outbreak

Seoul, Officials confirmed on Sunday that South Korea has vaccinated more than 84 percent of its cattle population against the outbreak of lumpy skin disease.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Food and Rural Affairs, approximately 3.45 million cows out of the 4.07 million in the country have been inoculated against the disease, which is highly infectious among bovines but does not affect humans. The country has seen 78 confirmed cases, with one new instance reported on Saturday. In response to the outbreak, which first appeared on October 20, the government intends to complete the vaccination process by the end of the coming Friday. Lumpy skin disease is characterized by nodules on the skin and other symptoms such as fever and loss of appetite, severely impacting milk production and leading to fatalities in cattle.
