South Korean Defense Minister Discusses Security with German Counterpart

SEOUL – Defense Minister Shin Won-sik held discussions on Tuesday with Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann, the chair of the German parliament's defense committee, focusing on regional security challenges and the enhancement of defense collaboration between South Korea and Germany. This meeting, hosted in Seoul, marked the inaugural visit by a chair of the Bundestag's defense committee to South Korea, highlighting the growing importance of defense relations between the two nations.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the talks centered on the critical need for international cooperation in light of current global security issues, including the conflict in Ukraine, military interactions between Russia and North Korea, and the hostilities between Israel and Hamas. Both parties acknowledged the interconnected security dynamics of the Indo-Pacific and Atlantic regions and concurred on the significance of developing their defense partnership and maintaining open lines of communication regarding key security matters.
