South Korean Election Results Expected to Have Minimal Impact on Foreign Policy

SEOUL: Following the recent parliamentary elections, a South Korean foreign ministry official stated Thursday that the outcome is unlikely to significantly affect the country's foreign policy, including its relations with Japan and trilateral cooperation with the United States.

According to Yonhap News Agency, despite the main opposition party's victory, where the Democratic Party secured 161 out of 254 directly contested seats, the official emphasized that President Yoon Suk Yeol's administration will continue to focus on strengthening ties with Japan to counter North Korea's nuclear threats. The election results saw the ruling People Power Party win only 90 seats, but the foreign policy direction, particularly concerning strategic alliances, is expected to remain stable.
