South Korea’s President Yoon Announces New Vice Science Ministers

Seoul - In a move to bolster the country's science and technology leadership, President Yoon Suk Yeol appointed new vice science ministers on Friday, as confirmed by his office. The reshuffle introduces experienced bureaucrats to key positions overseeing South Korea's science and technology policies and innovation strategies.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Lee Chang-yune, previously the secretary-general of the Presidential Advisory Council on Science and Technology, will succeed Cho Seong-kyung as the first vice science minister. In his new role, Lee will be responsible for guiding the nation's science technology policies. Additionally, Kang Do-hyun, who served as the director of ICT policy at the science ministry, has been appointed to take over from Park Yun-kyu as the second vice science minister, focusing on the country's ICT policies.

Ryu Kwang-jun, the head of the office of science, technology, and innovation coordination at the ministry, has also been named as the vice minister for science, technology, and innovation. The appointments are set to take effect next Monday, signaling a fresh direction for South Korea's science and technology sector.

The presidential office highlighted the extensive experience of the new vice ministers within the science ministry, indicating an expectation for these seasoned bureaucrats to effectively lead the government's science and ICT policies in the coming period.
