PATTAYA — A 27-year-old man has been referred to the prosecution for potential indictment over the murder of a Korean tourist in Pattaya, following his extradition from Cambodia last week.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the suspect was allegedly involved in the murder of the Korean traveler in his 30s on May 3. He reportedly fled to Cambodia six days later and was apprehended in Phnom Penh on May 14 through the collaborative efforts of the South Korean police attaché in Cambodia and local authorities. Prosecutors claim the victim was taken from a club while under the influence of drugs and alcohol, then strangled and beaten to death in a car by the suspect and two other Korean accomplices. The group is also accused of using the victim's phone to withdraw substantial sums of money from his bank account, after which they concealed his body in a drum and abandoned it at a nearby reservoir. Another accomplice is currently on trial after being arrested in South Korea.
The whereabouts of the third suspect involved in this case remain unknown.
