NEW YORK: The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) is set to hold a closed consultation session focusing on North Korea this week.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the meeting is scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday (New York time) to discuss issues related to North Korea, non-proliferation, and other matters. The consultation, requested by South Korea, the United States, and Japan, marks the first UNSC meeting on North Korea since South Korea began its two-year term as a nonpermanent member. The session is expected to address North Korea’s recent military activities, including its cooperation with Russia and the launch of a solid-fuel intermediate-range ballistic missile with a hypersonic warhead. This meeting follows North Korea’s missile launch on December 18, which was its first since firing a solid-fuel Hwasong-18 intercontinental ballistic missile.
