Candidates Nominated for South Korea’s Anti-Corruption Agency Leadership

SEOUL - A nomination committee has proposed two candidates for the position of Chief Prosecutor at the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials (CIO), aimed at combating corruption among senior public figures.

According to Yonhap News Agency, The nominees are Oh Dong-woon, a former Seoul High Court judge, and Lee Myong-sun, a former chief prosecutor at the Anyang Branch of the Suwon District Prosecutors' Office. The selection marks the next step in filling the vacancy left by the inaugural chief prosecutor, whose term ended on January 20. The nominated candidate will undergo a parliamentary confirmation hearing, following President Yoon Suk Yeol's final selection. The CIO, established in 2021, plays a critical role in South Korea's efforts to eradicate corruption at the highest levels of government.
