Opposition Leader Lee Jae-myung Refutes Claims of Secret Envoys in Talks with President Yoon

Seoul, South Korea - Opposition leader Lee Jae-myung has denied allegations of unofficial envoy involvement in arranging his recent talks with President Yoon Suk Yeol. The denial came following a local media report suggesting that two professors from Korea University and Kyonggi University had facilitated the discussions as "secret envoys."

According to Yonhap News Agency, who is the chairman of the main opposition Democratic Party, the only discussions regarding the meeting were held directly between his chief of staff and the presidential office.

The report, which surfaced on Tuesday, claimed these academics were instrumental in organizing the first-ever talks between Lee and President Yoon since Yoon took office. However, an official from the presidential office also confirmed that the meeting was arranged through official channels without the involvement of any behind-the-scenes figures. This meeting was initially proposed by Yoon following the ruling People Power Party’s significant loss in the April 10 parliamentary elections, where Lee's Democratic Party emerged victorious.
