PPP Challenges Withdrawal of Impeachment Motions Against Broadcasting Watchdog Chief

SEOUL - The ruling People Power Party (PPP) filed an injunction on Monday against the National Assembly speaker's approval of the main opposition Democratic Party's request to withdraw impeachment motions. The motions targeted the head of the country's broadcasting watchdog and two prosecutors.

According to Yonhap News Agency, all 111 PPP lawmakers signed the injunction request and a separate petition to the Constitutional Court, contesting Assembly Speaker Kim Jin-pyo's decision. The PPP argues that the motions, once submitted to a plenary session, cannot be retracted, asserting that Kim's decision violated their rights to deliberate and vote. In contrast, the Assembly Secretariat maintains that the motions can be withdrawn as they have not yet been formally introduced in the Assembly.
