Seoul Government Grants Plaza Use to Reading Event Over LGBTQ Festival

SEOUL — The Seoul city government on Friday approved the Seoul Metropolitan Library's request to host an outdoor reading event at Seoul Plaza on May 31, denying the same opportunity to an annual LGBTQ festival planned for the same location.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the decision was influenced by the fact that the library had previously reserved the space for dates surrounding May 31. This approval was part of an effort to maintain continuity and efficiency in the plaza's scheduling. The LGBTQ festival was one of three applicants for the plaza on that day, the others being the library event and a Christian group event.

This decision marks the second consecutive year that the LGBTQ festival has been unable to secure Seoul Plaza for its event. Last year, the city allocated the space to a Christian group for a youth concert.
