Seoul - Kang Do-hyung, the nominee for South Korea's Oceans Minister, publicly apologized on Friday for his criminal history involving drunk driving and an act of violence. The admission came after a police report was submitted to Rep. Kim Doo-gwan of the Democratic Party, revealing Kang's past legal troubles.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Kang was fined 1.5 million won (approximately $1,148) in 2004 for driving under the influence in Jeju. Additionally, in 1999, he was fined 300,000 won for a violent act. Kang expressed deep regret for his past actions, acknowledging his mistakes and immature judgment as a young individual. He apologized sincerely to the public, recognizing the gravity of his actions as a candidate for a Cabinet position.
Kang was recently nominated to replace Cho Seung-hwan as the Minister of Oceans and Fisheries. His background includes extensive experience in marine science, currently serving as the chief of the Korea Institute of Ocean Science and Technology.
