Seoul, South Korea - The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency's cybercrime bureau has initiated an investigation into online rumors regarding presidential chief of staff Kim Dae-ki. The probe began following a formal complaint about allegations circulated through mobile messages.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Officials stated on Sunday that the investigation is in response to a complaint seeking inquiry into the individual responsible for spreading these rumors. However, the police have refrained from disclosing detailed information about the ongoing investigation.
The contentious message includes accusations of Kim Dae-ki using his influence to interfere in a private company's personnel decisions and his alleged negligence in assessing South Korea's prospects in its bid to host the 2030 World Expo. Kim has denounced these rumors as unequivocally false and has requested an investigation into the originator of the message for potential defamation charges, as per police reports.
