South Korea and China Near Agreement on Historic Ministerial Visit to Beijing

Beijing - South Korea and China are nearing the final stages of discussions regarding a visit by South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Tae-yul to Beijing, an event that would mark the first such visit in over six years.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the planning for Cho's visit comes after an invitation was extended by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi during a phone conversation in February. "The two countries are discussing the specific itinerary and agenda with regard to our foreign minister's visit to China, and the discussions are currently in the final stage of fine-tuning," the official stated. If realized, Cho's trip would be the first by a South Korean foreign minister to Beijing since Kang Kyung-wha's visit in November 2017 during the presidency of Moon Jae-in.
