South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol to Mark Second Anniversary with Press Conference

Seoul - President Yoon Suk Yeol of South Korea is scheduled to hold a press conference on Thursday at 10 a.m., coinciding with the second anniversary of his inauguration, announced the presidential office on Monday. This will be President Yoon's first press conference since August 2022, highlighting a significant period of his presidency.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the conference will be held at the presidential office a day before the official two-year mark of Yoon's term. The president plans to release a video statement detailing his policy directions and achievements over the past two years, as well as his goals for the remaining three years of his term. Following the statement, he will take questions from the press.

This announcement comes at a time when President Yoon’s administration and his ruling People Power Party are navigating the aftermath of a significant electoral defeat in last month's parliamentary elections, where the opposition Democratic Party won a majority of the seats. In response to the political shift, Yoon has shown openness to dialogue, engaging in his first official discussion with Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myung.

At the upcoming press conference, Yoon is expected to address various critical issues, including controversial legislation related to a special counsel investigation into the military's handling of a Marine's death last year—an issue that the presidential office has criticized as being politically motivated. The conference is part of an effort to enhance public communication and interaction with the media following criticism of Yoon's communication style.
